Rolling River Ranch & Rescue

About Us

Rolling River Ranch and Rescue was formed in 2016, and named for the founder's Great Grandparents, Elise and Earl Rolling.  The heart of the organization is on their ranch on River Road.  Maria Thomas, the founder, has worked in animal welfare since 2007.

She started out as a volunteer at the Waco Humane Society in 2007, when she was offered a job.  She started working there and became the Programs Coordinator, developing relationships with local rescues, beefing up the adoption program with special adoption events and special needs adoptions, and in just one year brought the foster program from 3 to 150 families strong.

She then worked for Precious Souls Canine Rescue, Spay Neuter Inject Protect San Antonio, and the Companion Animal Alliance in Baton Rouge, before moving on to Project Purr Baton Rouge.  She started out as the Foster Care Director and was eventually promoted to Executive Director.  She moved home to New Orleans in 2011, and after a short break from animal welfare, decided to realize her dream of heading up her own organization to help the animals in her hometown.

River Road Ranch and Rescue is an all-breed, many species rescue.  Although Maria has a soft spot for tortoiseshell cats and Great Pyrenees dogs, she helps any animal she possibly can, including the occasional goat and chicken.
